Manhattan House 200 E 66th St, Manhattan, NYC

Manhattan House is one of the most important condo buildings in the Upper East Side, New York City. Recently, Manhattan House has included in its services five more layouts that contain both 3 and 4 bedroom condos. The prices for these apartments vary between $400,000 and 3.5 million. Critics have noticed that in 2010 the demand for large apartment has increased, and this is why the developer of Manhattan House, O’Connor Capital Partners, decided to build larger apartments. The new 3 bedroom apartments have a price staring at $ 2.9 million. This is due to the fact that they have their own private balconies and massive museum-scale galleries.

Condo Amenities and Details

All condos have their own high class kitchens, with top appliances, oak plank floors and energy efficient windows. Also, the bathrooms are made from Sebastian Crème marble, polished chrome fixtures and heated floors. Besides the expansive new unit layouts, Manhattan House has the most popular and appreciated facilities in New York City. Some of the most popular are its large gardens, a resident manager, fitness and gym center, children playrooms, refrigerated storage and 10.000 square feet Manhattan Club situated on the roof of the condo.

However, these are just a few of the facilities you can benefit for as a resident. If you are thinking about buying a spacious place, which can offer you both luxury and convenient amenities, you should take into consideration The Modern Collection of Manhattan House. The following are the most popular amenities the complex can offer:

  • Garden
  • Attended Lobby
  • 24 hours doorman
  • Full Service Garage
  • Children’s Playrooms
  • Elevator
  • Roof deck
  • Extensive gardens
  • high influential building
  • huge windowed lobbies

The Manhattan House spa is perfect for residents who are constantly looking for relaxation, while the library will keep them entertained with some of its best books and magazines. There’s also a yoga studio, and residents will also benefit from 24/7 concierge. Thanks to its innovative setbacks, the edifice highlights a great view of New York City.

The Neighborhood

Critics say that Manhattan House is one of the most distinguished and appreciated buildings built after World War II. Moreover, even if in the last few years many firms have built high class luxurious condos, Manhattan House has remained an icon of the modern era. People can find it very easily, thanks to its access to the curved driveway on 66th Street. In fact, this is one of the main reasons for which the building is so popular.

Residents can see the entrances on the driveway trough the floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a minimalist look. More and more people choose to invest in a condo at the Manhattan House Complex because it is a luxurious place that offers great services at a decent price. Featuring private gardens, generous balconies, and exquisite panoramas, the extravagant construction will certainly live up to your expectations. Future residents will also benefit from full privacy and closeness to New York City’s top attractions and places of interest.

NEW YORK CITY FIRE MUSEUM COLLECTION

FirefighterFirefighters are a rare breed. They rush in when all others flee. They sacrifice themselves in ways little and large. And since the actions of the First Responders and their brethren on September 11, 2001, awareness of what firefighters do has heightened. Over that decade, firefighters countrywide have become even more revered, perhaps nonewhere more so than in New York City.

The best place to learn about the history of firefighting in New York City – as well as to view artifacts, see collections, absorb the culture of firefighting, and learn about fire prevention and safety – is the New York City Fire Museum.

The original museum opened in 1934 as the Fire College Museum in Long Island City. A quarter of a century later, the collection moved to a working Manhattan fire station, where it stayed for just over two decades, until the Home Insurance Company, in 1981, presented its own collection of firefighter and firefighting paraphernalia and memorabilia. This paved the way for The Friends of New York City Fire Department Collection. A non-profit, the collection was meant to raise funds for the renovation of the former Engine Company No. 30, an early twentieth century firehouse on Spring Street. Six years later, the New York City Fire Museum swung open its doors.

The museum houses one of the country’s most impressive – and most important – collections of fire-themed art and artifacts, some dating as far back as the 18th century. Visitors can view such pieces as helmets, lanterns, tools, leather buckets, and early motorized gadgets and devices.

Additional items on display include parade belts and hats, uniform parts and insignia, horse-drawn vehicles, and hand pumped fire engines from before the Civil War. One of the most impressive pieces of the collection is the “Farnam”-style fire engine, one of the earliest fire engines in North America. This amazing engine was built in New York in the 1790s.

Of course, the museum has extensive collections of modern tools such as the Halligan forcible entry apparatus and the Jaws of Life. A display focusing on the evolution of firefighter clothing is also presented, including bunker gear and turnout coats (displayed on mannequins).

As you would expect, the Museum contains a moving memorial to the 343 firefighters of the Fire Department of New York who gave their lives on 9/11. Included with the memorial is a display of a number of artifacts that were recovered from the World Trade Center site on that fateful day.

As visitors stroll through the museum and take everything in, firefighters are on hand to answer questions, explain firefighting maneuvers, pose for pictures, and impart their wisdom not only on how to contain a fire but also how to prevent one. There’s a mock apartment with an articial smoke machine to mimic real conditions of a fire, as well as a video room for viewing and black lighted fire hazards that supplement the museum’s fire education program for schoolkids from kindergarden to high school seniors.

40,000 visitors from all over the country and world find their way to the museum to take in the amazing collection and have a chat with active and retired FDNY firefighters.

Super Yacht Redefines Luxury Living

yachtIn the world of boating, yachts come in generally three categories: regular  excellent, and the one-of-a-kind yachts, such as Adastra. This custom-built masterpiece of engineering marvel actually looks like a futuristic spacecraft instead of a typical yacht. And with great looks to match its equally great features, it’s not a surprise, therefore, to see that it it’s in a class of its own. In fact, Boat International magazine once said that Adastra, which in Latin means “stars,” is “one of the world’s most amazing super yachts that could spell the future for efficient long range cruising”.

Designed by John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs of Great Britain, and built by the Chinese-based shipbuilding company, McConaghy Boats in Zhuhai, the $24 million dollar “super” yacht has an integrated monitoring system, which can be controlled remotely just by a touch of an iPad. There is, however, a boundary limit, and the designers recommend a maximum of 50-meter distance between you and the boat.

This technology of using the iPad has been around for some time. Developers have used it to control toy helicopters and detect whales on East Coast shipping routes. Cruise ships and other watercraft also made use of the tablet as control panels and menus for event organizers and televisions. However, it’s quite rare to find a yacht that can actually be controlled navigationally by using an iPad. This is one of the coolest features that you’ll love about Adastra, but it doesn’t stop there. Its other notable features include:

  • a lounge area, dining table, navigation station, and a saloon area on the main deck
  • a sofa and bar area to the port at the deck (rear of the yacht) and a bar and dining area at the starboard
  • glass made from Kevlar foam sandwich
  • interior made from oak cabinetry utilizing honeycomb panels
  • superstructure made from carbon fiber together with Nomex honeycomb core

The ship has a master cabin together with two guest rooms. Adastra can comfortably house nine people together with five to six crew. Its speed is around 22 knots, with an astonishing range of around 4,000 nautical miles in a single trip. This speed is actually enough for an easy trip from the UK to New York City. Every aspect of the boat is custom built, and the hatches, port lights, ladders, carbon fiber, and even hinges are all specifically made just for the boat. Add them to the streamlined shape of the yacht and you’ll get one seriously powerful and efficient machine with eye-catching looks to go along with it.

There is only one Adastra in the world. It was commissioned five years ago by shipping magnate, Anto Marden and his wife, Elaine Marden, and was formally launched in China on the first week of June, 2012. Both are currently residing in Hong Kong. Among many other reasons, Anto and his wife would like to use Adastra to sail between the two islands that they own in Indonesia.

Brooklyn Condo Developments on the Rise

Although the housing market has been in a slump for several years, there have been interesting developments in New York – specifically in Brooklyn.  Buyers in the market for condo units have seen a shortage of inventory as condo developments slowed dramatically during the downturn.  But recent evidence suggests that the market has taken a turn for the better.

Reports say that there are approximately 50 new condo developments in New York City – half of which are located in Brooklyn.  This is great news for buyers who waited out the recession and are now ready to make that financial commitment.   Here’s a look at what is on the market and in development in New York’s hippest borough.

 Fino 122

Located in Fort Greene at 122 Adelphi Street, Fino 122 began sales in February.  The 11 story building houses one, two and three bedroom units that range in price from $295,000 to $3.3 million.  The building features private, keyed elevator access to all apartments, a private roof terrace, a fitness room and recreation center and parking.  More than 15 percent of the units have already been sold.

20 Henry

This former candy factory located in Brooklyn Heights at 20 Henry Street  was converted to condos in 2007.  After some financial mishaps that stalled the project, it is scheduled for completion later this year.  Sales began in February, and are averaging more than $1,000 per square foot. Four of the six penthouses are already in contract.

29 Montrose Avenue

Located in Williamsburg, this 10 unit condo project started coming on the market last month.  The units range in size from a 507 square foot one bedroom to a 1,061 square foot two bedroom.  Prices range from $365,000 to $659,000.  50 percent of the units are already in contract.

The Venetian

After being stalled for more than a decade, the Venetian condo development in Midwood at 447 Avenue P finally came on the market in May.  The property is designed to look like a European Renaissance building.  No units have closed as of yet, although there are contracts out on a few.

388 Bridge Street

Designed by the SLCE architects, this skyscraper is located in Downtown Brooklyn at 388 Bridge Street.  It includes 34 rental units and 144 condos.  The project cost the developers $265 million and has been in the planning stages for several years.  When completed in 2013, it will hold the record as the tallest building in Brooklyn – but not for long.  Across the street another development by AvalonBay Communities is being planned that will just eclipse 388 Bridge; however, construction is not being planned to commence on that project until the end of the year.

Rubin Museum of Art – West Village, Manhattan

Devoted to Art of the Himalaya

Among the many museums to be found in New York City, only one is comprised largely of works that come from earth’s mightiest mountain range.  That would be the Rubin Museum found at 150 West 17th Street, and those mountains of course are the Himalaya’s.  It is a cultural institution that takes as its mission to develop an appreciation for the artistic output of the Himalayan region where so many of the world’s major cultures and religions intersect.

The area has a rich history that has developed both from the indigenous people that live among the mountains as well as benefiting from the many travelers passing through.  The museum is committed to developing a following not only among scholars and connoisseurs of culture who have interest in the region, but also among the general public and members of the local community.  The museums runs outreach programs through local schools and youth groups.

The museum houses an extensive collection of art from the Himalayan region.  There are a variety of painting, sculptures, artifacts and textiles that date back up to two thousand years.  The bulk of the items are from the 2nd Century and to the 20th Century.  Guiding the museum’s Exhibitions, Collections, and Research of this vast and storied region is Director Jan Van Alphen.

The museum features a rotating series of exhibitions and programs designed to inform the public of the significance of the region to world culture.  The legacy of Himalayan art is detailed through the museum’s work.

No Prior Experience Required

The exhibits and shows are informative in nature.  There is recognition that few people know much about the history and importance of the region.  Texts supply rich detail of the significance of each item on display, and there is much information about the historic era each item is found in.  Both the casual viewer and serious scholar can enjoy perusing the wares on display along with the texts that accompany them.

At the museum, one may read books both from the Himalayan region and about the area.  Computer terminals are available that allow one to search through the museum collections.  These are well used both by scholars and interested members of the public. The museum also houses a large collection of photographs that are currently on loan from the Alkazi Foundation and are part of a retrospective of the work of Homai Vyarawalla, and will only be on view through January 14th 2013.

The Café at the Rubin Museum is something of a hot spot among New Yorkers looking for a good place to eat.  It features Himalayan cuisine, and there is even a happy hour on Wednesday evenings from 5-7PM. The Museum is free on Friday nights from 6-10PM.
